No a) Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
No b) Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
No c) Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
No d) An income tax increase on any tax bracket?
The NYS Budget needs to be carefully managed to insure that taxpayer dollars are well spent. A particular concern of mine is the inequity of school funding LI gets back from Albany. WE can and must do better for our LI homeowners!
Yes a) Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates?
Yes b) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes c) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
No d) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
e) Other or expanded principles:
No a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes b) Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
No c) Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
No d) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
Yes e) Do you support replacing the cash bail system with a supervised release system for misdemeanor charges?
I do not support the death penalty, however I do support the ability of a judge to issue a sentence of life without the possibility of parole for certain violent felony convictions, such as killing a police officer, firefighter or EMS provider. I do support recreational sale of marijuana with the same restrictions we have in place on hard liquor. I do not support routine enforcement of immigration violations by local police. It is counter productive to public safety and investigation efforts of police. Convicted felons with ICE violations should be deported after serving their sentence.
Yes a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
b) Do you support lowering state taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes c) Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector?
Yes d) Do you support expanding access to unemployment benefits?
No e) Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
Yes f) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of New York ?
b) Not if it would require increasing state debt to do so.
No a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in New York ?
No b) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
Yes c) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from New York high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
No d) Should students' standardized test scores be used to evaluate teacher performance?
I do not believe that NY should adopt Common Core as a curriculum, however, we should provide reasonable testing to assure that students have the education and skills that they will need as adults. I also believe that young adults who are residents of NYS should be allowed to pursue higher education at a SUNY college while they are also seeking to gain full legal citizenship. Lastly, test scores show how well a student learned the lesson taught them, it is not always reflective of the quality of the teacher. Teacher evaluations must look at many factors, not just tests.
Yes a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes b) Do you support state government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
Yes c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
Insuring we have clean air and clean water and safe housing are basic responsibilities of good government.
Yes a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Yes b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
No c) Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom?
Yes d) Should a license be required for gun ownership?
NYS needs to pass "red flag" laws that would restrict access to guns when it is determined by a judge that the individual is a danger to themselves or others.
Yes a) Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
Yes b) Do you support Medicaid expansion through New York 's health care programs?
Yes c) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
Yes d) Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
No e) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
a) Funding for substance use disorders must be a priority. c) I support that all individuals have health insurance. Where the individual obtains insurance can be the individual themselves, their employer, or even the government. e) I do support religious exemptions providing the risk of not being vaccinated does not endanger the general public health, only the health of the individual refusing the vaccination. I believe that each individual has the right to make decisions about their own body and the health care they choose to, or choose not to, receive.
Yes a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in New York 's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in New York 's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes c) Do you support greater efforts by New York state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
Yes d) Should New York permit localities to adopt "Sanctuary City" immigration policies?
e) Other or expanded principles:
Protecting health and wellness is the overall principle which guides me. NY needs to insure that as federal cuts to medicare continue, services to NYS residents are not diminished. The opioid epidemic is claiming too many. I am calling for expanded services for both in patient and out patient care. I am also calling for legislation requiring any health insurance sold in NY to cover this care. Nurse staffing standards must be enacted this session. I support implementing safe hospital staffing standards. Lastly, as a lifelong first responder, I support stronger building codes to protect every resident in NY state.
